A team leader that is effective has a number of features and attributes that inspire team members to follow him or her. Team leaders are born with particular traits, such as compassion and honesty, or they acquire them via formal training and experience. Being an excellent leader may inspire trust in the team while also contributing to the department’s success through increased team productivity.  Volunteer for new tasks when your manager or supervisor asks for additional help. This allows you to learn new skills and you can also practice how to react when facing new challenges. You will learn to remain calm and level-headed when faced with unfamiliar work and find out ways to gather more information from available resources to help you complete your task. This is useful practice because leaders are often faced with difficult situations and need to keep their composure in order to make sensible decisions. 


Teach and share knowledge with others.

Teaching others allows you to practice patience, consider from the perspective of another person, and expand your understanding of the subject area. When you teach someone else, especially a beginner, you evaluate and organize the material in a new way to make it easier for them to grasp. This is similar to being a leader; in order to communicate effectively with your team members, you may need to reorganize and explain material in a way that they can understand.

Recognize your own talents and shortcomings.

Examine your strengths and weaknesses to determine which strengths you can use and which shortcomings you should work on. For example, if your strength is that you are social and get along well with people, this might lead to a leadership job in which you can inspire others to accomplish a project. Your limitation, on the other hand, may be that you find it difficult to conceive conceptually in terms of the “big picture,” in which case you could practise brainstorming sessions on how a choice affects the office half-year, one year, and five years down the road.



 Leadership skills can be practiced at any level regardless of the title you have. They are important skills to have because a good leader is able to bring out the best abilities in his/her team members and motivate them to work together in achieving a shared goal. A good leader is also organized and keeps the team on track and focused to avoid delays. You can practice leadership skills by trying some of the suggestions listed above, such as by volunteering for new projects at work and gaining new skills in the process, teaching another person to improve your communication skills, and working on taking advantage of your strengths and improving your weaknesses.
