The vision projected for every organisation is the foundation of its success. There is no moving, no knowing, and no measuring for performance in the absence of a vision.


A well defined vision is crucial in leadership in order to develop followership and for people to understand where such a leader is heading.

A vision is a definite, unique, and precise description of the future. Vision, in its broadest sense, is linked to the advancements that such an organisation may make. Leadership is critical in the process of communicating vision and achieving it.

What distinguishes leaders from managers is that, whereas a manager assists in the process of making it happen, a leader is the one who casts the vision. When the organisation faces challenges, a leader carves out strategic advances, provides the necessary components for the organisation to succeed, and creates the platform for the distribution of the vision to the various strata of the organisation.


Leadership is also necessary for vision communication. Leaders must inspire their people and foster an atmosphere of trust. They are capable of communicating even the most challenging visions, and in many cases, they set the standard by being the first to set out to make such a vision a reality.
What is the world like for leaders who have supplied such vision? They plan for the future and deploy their employees in key locations.
They are constructing a future that will last for decades.

They direct those they lead to conduct activities for the future.
Visionary leaders are influential and are not just brilliant with words, but also with actions that require them to think beyond the box.

Martin Luther King envisioned a day when his children would have the same rights as people of other races and colours. He, too, did not see his vision realised, but the post of President of the United States is now held by a black man.


These were visionaries who saw the near-impossible before it became a reality. A leader’s compelling visions may transform an organisation or the planet. A leader’s vision does not automatically imply that it is simple. They also recognise that making it happen might be fairly frightening, but in order to make it practical, they place the vision before others, set demanding targets, and then go after it relentlessly to make it happen. These types of leaders are priceless.


The irony of leadership is that the urgent and urgent will not go away. The leader must make time for the pressing and never-ending operational issues. Visionary leaders, on the other hand, must be able to see ahead.
